0.3 beta Your family server gets a memory: a curated wiki of your family life, and answers with sources in the chat. See what's coming →

I was manually copying photos off my phone with a cable...

Like a caveman. Drawers full of paper, documents scattered across emails, Google Drive and download folders. 20 years of automating things for businesses as a software engineer. I felt embarrassed. Then I bought a used Mac Studio by accident.

famstack is my answer. An open source stack for photos, documents, family memories, local AI and automated backups. Running on a Mac in our home. Private. No subscriptions. Nothing leaves the house.

Now we are recording voice messages from our kids as a kind of diary. I wish I had started six years earlier.

// what's cooking — 0.3 beta

It remembers now.

What if someone curated a wiki for your family life? 0.3 brings a memory to your server: facts, documents, bookmarks, and voice notes, organized into a private wiki you can view, search, and ask. On the beta branch today, release coming soon.

A wiki of your family life

Memory: the new stacklet

Facts, documents, bookmarks, topics: curated into an Obsidian-compatible wiki on your own Mac. Search it, browse the graph, edit it by hand. Everything your family knows, in one place.

Answers with sources

Ask your archive

"When does our car insurance renew?" gets an answer with citations, not a pile of search hits. The bot reads the documents so you don't have to.

Talk, and it files itself

Voice memos

Send a voice memo to the family chat. It comes back as a clean transcript, filed in the wiki as a searchable note. Never miss a thought.

The room is the filing system

Topic rooms

Create a room called "Topic: Garden Project", invite the bot, drop notes, links, and scans. Everything feeds the topic's wiki page. The project documents itself.
